Kitchen Design: Open Up
This was a very narrow galley kitchen, narrower than usual, even in a city of tight spaces. We added a desk area, moved appliances to maximize efficiency, and minimized a doorway to create the office space. Since it was a narrow kitchen to begin with, we resisted filling up the space with cabinets, so it did not feel oppressive. We put in glass shelves to aid the feeling of openness. The countertops are soapstone from Vermont, an increasingly popular choice.
